Introduction

Hello World.

I say “World” because I honestly don’t know who may be reading my little blog, but I feel like this should encompass everyone! My name is Vanessa and I am the blogger and recipe creator behind most of what you will find here.

I may ramble sometimes, but the main thing you will see here is my love of FOOD. This includes my passion – cooking – and my newly found enjoyment of baking. It’s taken me a while to really enjoy baking because I’m usually the kind of person who likes to be spontaneous with ingredients and adjust the recipe as I go, tasting a little bit here and trying a spoonful there. You can’t really do that with baking. I do have a sweet tooth though, so I’ve had to learn to bake those sweet treats for myself (and my boyfriend Joel), and little by little I have come to enjoy it as well.

I started this blog because I wanted somewhere I could keep organized and focused on creating recipes. It’s hard to share a recipe with someone who asks for it when you don’t usually track how much of which ingredient you throw in. My hope is that through this blog I will be able to share my recipes with anyone who may want to try my dishes! Blogging has been something I’ve thought about for years and finally I am bringing this dream to fruition.

Food has been my passion for many years now and is my version of a creative outlet. I don’t feel I’m very good at drawing or painting, but if I may humbly say so, I think I’m a pretty decent cook. Making a delicious meal is usually my stress reliever – I can focus on the task at hand and not worry about the things that are bothering me. Eating said delicious meal is also a great stress reliever 🙂 .

While many of my interests have changed wildly throughout the years, food and cooking has been a constant. I haven’t been professionally trained in any shape or form aside from junior high and high school cooking classes, I’ve mostly learned from my family or trial and error. I’m still learning with every new recipe in fact! I believe it to be an ongoing learning process for everyone. New techniques, styles, trends, flavours… it doesn’t end but that is part of the fun and what keeps things interesting! It’s not scary to learn to cook and try new recipes out, I promise!

Welcome to Zest & Simmer. I hope you enjoy what you find!
