Candy Cane Oreo Cookies – The perfect festive treat for the holidays! This Christmas cookie recipe only has 5 ingredients: boxed cake mix, canola oil, eggs, Oreo cookies and candy canes. Christmas baking almost can’t get any easier than this!
Hello first Christmas cookies of the year! Yes, it is officially Christmas baking season in my house, and I couldn’t be more excited. We have our outdoor Christmas lights on, our decorations and our Christmas tree up as well! I love the glow from these things – it makes me feel all warm and cozy. We even took out the cat’s Christmas outfits LOL!
Some may think mid November is too early… but I say, why not celebrate something that makes you happy for as long as possible? Life can be short and we need to enjoy it as much as we can.
I made these Christmas cookies as I am taking a part of this year’s Sweetest Season Cookie Exchange with a fantastic group of bloggers! This is a yearly celebration of sugar, butter and cookies – yum! Essentially, we all post a cookie recipe this week, and also for those who can we donate to a good cause. If you’d like to see the other delicious cookies recipes, you can check out all of their creations here. More will be added throughout the week, so keep checking back! You can also find the amazing cookie recipes we have created by looking up the #sweetestseasoncookies hashtag on Instagram and Twitter!
Here’s an extra lil something sweet for you – the Sweetest Season Cookie Exchange is supporting Cookies for Kids’ Cancer as we share our recipes! One part I love of the holiday season is giving back to those in need, and this charity definitely does that. Founded in 2008, it is an American based charity that is committed to raising funds to research for new, innovative and less-toxic treatments for childhood cancer. They have granted nearly $15 million to pediatric cancer research in the form of 100 research grants to leading pediatric cancer centers across the country, including 37 treatments available to kids battling cancer today – wow!
If you’d like to join us in giving back, please consider making a donation through our fundraising page.
Candy Cane Oreo Cookies – mmm so good!
I’ve been very much into the peppermint vibe this year. Seriously, at least 3/4 of the holiday recipes I’ve thought of making involve candy canes or peppermint. And I’ve had to tell myself tot one it down a bit, because surely people want to enjoy other holiday flavours aside from peppermint?
But that hasn’t really stopped me.
So this is the first of my peppermint creations this year! Let me tell you, they were really, really tasty. Like, they lasted maybe 24 hours? Of 2 dozen cookies. Between 2 of us.
And so easy to make. I wasn’t in the mood to make a complicated cookie recipe. I didn’t feel like measuring a ton of ingredients that day, but I wanted cookies. So I came up with these, as I know how busy the holidays can be, so recipes that can save some time are always a good thing. And also, I wanted some Christmas cookies ASAP.
All you need is boxed cake mix (I used white cake mix, but vanilla could work too!), canola oil, eggs, Oreo cookies and candy canes. Like I said, only a few ingredients, so these cookies are easy peasy.
Mix those all together, bake and soon you have yourself a festive treat! And I just love the candy canes and Oreo together. Chocolate and peppermint truly is a match made in heaven if you ask me.
Now while I have made these cookies as part of a virtual Christmas cookie exchange, these cookies truly are perfect if you have a real bake exchange coming up! With hardly any measuring required, you can get a ton of batches made in a short amount of time. Which means there is more time to shop for presents, volunteer, watch cheesy Christmas movies in your PJ’s and most importantly – more time to eat all the goodies 😉
If you make these Candy Cane Oreo Cookies please let me know! You can leave a comment below, rate it, post on the Zest & Simmer Facebook page or share photos on Instagram using the hashtag #zestandsimmer. I’d love to see it and I am always thrilled to hear from you!
